Artificial Intelligence (AI), Business & Workplace Transformation l Adobe Think Tank

Machine generated transcript…

– I really see one of the sortof gateway uses of AI being customer excellencethroughout the organization and really understanding the customer, bringing those insights to bear in everything you do,from designing products to thinking throughthe customer lifecycle – I think we all kindof unanimously agreed the highest order isthe customer experience – Yes – Yeah – And so coupled with nowthe technology is there, weve got access to thesevast amounts of data, we can know treat these experiences and this notion of bringinghuman and machine together,.

not versus each other, but together, can really I thinkaccelerate that creation of those customer — – We have multiple exponentials that are all occurring at the same time and feeding off of each other You have, weve been talking about data and the ability to extractmore about our reality than we ever have before The tooling is racing along as well and so that is democratizingthe availability of these technologies toa much broader user group then has even been available before in terms of implementation, and then finally, I think I heard you mentionPeter a little while ago.

the compute capability of modern GPUs and similar is providing us that ability to bring them all together and they each feed off each other, so were seeing the very early stages of this renaissance right now – Theres a lot that’s been made around the impact of AI on the workforce and does that mean itsgoing to be mass job loss? Thats not what Im seeing.

I really focused on three areas where I think the machinelearning specifically will have an impact One is reducing cost, and by that I dont mean that were displacing the workforce What I mean are there’slots of jobs out there that were never intended for people to do, but the only option wasfor people to do them because we didnt havesoftware that could do it on their behalf I think therell be a lotof those types of jobs,.

repetitive, that its not ideally suited for humans to do in the first place Second is increasing efficiency and often times youll hear about potentially giving peoplesuper powers in their job, where not only can they do their job, they can do it a lot faster, a lot better, and they can be much more productive And then the third area isachieving new breakthroughs, and this is something I think is going to be reallypowerful as it relates to what you can get out of machine learning As a society, we have blindspots that were not aware of.

For any new breakthrough that occurs, that only happened because someone else didnt think to do that Machine learning gives us the opportunity to discover new patterns, new ways of working that werent obvious before, and so I think were gonna be able to see all sorts of interesting newcapabilities in the enterprise as it relates to that – Lets get specific, though – It raises a great question Theres a particular word that you said.

and that was kind ofsuper powers for humans and I think that is where so many of us are driving toward in that you go to your place of employment, and as you walk in the environment and thesensors know who you are, they understand what your job is, they understand the toolsthat you need to do that job and they align those robots, the various automation and the human is reallyin the center of that conducting what is essentiallya symphony of automation to supercharge their abilityto get their work done.

And so, whereas so many peopleare worried about job loss, we really look at it assupercharging the human and augmenting them with better tools than they’ve ever had beforeto get their job done – You guys have some predictionsfor where this is going Give us a couple predictionsthat you would make over the next, say, three to five years – Well, the boldest one was by 2020,.

if a company is notutilizing AI in some way, theyre going to inherentlylose market value and I think we were pretty confident if you and your company have done some great research on that and I think its pretty well substantiated – I think the topicthat we just brought up that man plus machine would be much better than either one on their own Thats true in theenterprise world as well I know there are a lotof the AI playing games thus beating all the human champions but I think its justkeep that aside.

its much more the two working together I think is where the value would come, and its not only the value I think as you go intomore enterprise situations, given the risks involved, giventhe dollar value involved, you do want humans in the loop at least for the foreseeable future until you can start trusting the AI – Okay, so Im a seniorexecutive in a B2B enterprise Where do I start, what do I do, Tom?.

– You pray to find a problem Theres two ways into that – Help me figure out what a problem is (laughing) Tell me about a problem – Right now? I think broadly speaking, there’s two ways to use a new technology The easiest and the most oft and the most effective way to do that is to work around a problem, the other way is to work around.

the opportunities it creates Regardless of what business you’re in, its great to figure outwhat the point of pain are and then establish if thistechnology has a role in that, and then what the role isand then ideate around that The other way is to just be aware of the incredible thingsthat this can make happen and then kind of brainstormaround what that means But, we need to be really careful about very specific advicefor our general problems We like to ask people questions like what are your clients thinking these days.

or whats it like to be a bank? The reality is that every type of company has completely differentproblems right now They have vastly differentattitudes towards risk They have vastly differentattitudes towards the degree to which theyre trying toand able to make change I think you need to just approach every single particularproblem and opportunity in a very specific way that’s precise to that person and that time – I think its important to keep expectations set too, right?.

Like people hearabout artificial intelligence and all this crazy stuff that its doing and so they think that its going to be this magical solution that’solves all their problems when in most cases, in my experience, its better to walk beforeyou run when it comes to this, especially if youve never done a machine learning style project before which requires asignificant amount of data – Yeah – You first have to getyour data strategy in place before you can have an AI strategy.

– Crucial – Crucial – That is crucial to success – Yeah – If you do not get your data strategy not only figured out butimplemented ahead of time, and you may have a huge amount of data, but getting the rightdata to the right place to solve a problem cannot be overstated.

From small businesses to large enterprises, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning are helping workers collaborate in smarter, faster ways to ultimately delight their customers. Industry leaders discuss how AI is driving employee productivity and helping brands deliver engaging, personalized digital experiences.
